Opinions

Yes, I have a few… The stone in my shoe this morning is the treatment of Midshipman First Class Chase Standage.  Lets be clear:  Standage is a perverted criminal.  His crime was to express politically incorrect opinions on a twitter account. Ouch…  In considering that crime as detrimental to the to the reputation of the Navy and conduct unbecoming,  the Naval Academy showed great restraint.  Instead of mandating keel hauling, lashing or hot tar and feathers, the Academy simply dismissed Midshipman Standage from the service and directed the payback of $174,753.00 expended on his behalf by the Government.  That the twitter account used, in no way  associated Mr. Standage with the Navy or that the right to express opinion is sort of guaranteed to an American Citizen, is irrelevant of course. I suppose things could be worse.  Standage could have applied paint to the statue of Tecumseh and thus have committed a crime against humanity.  We all know the penalty for that is emasculation without sedation and assignment to the girls track team.

I am a strong proponent of waddaboutism  and so I offer the argument of waddabout West Point and the cheating scandal… That in which 24 cadets, members of the football team, were caught cheating on exams.  Were they expelled and required to compensate the Gummit…?  Well. the short answer is no. They were “remediated" in place. And allowed to compete in the Army victory over Navy as well as the Liberty Bowl…

Apparently at one point in the legal processing of the Standage case, the Navy decided to allow Mr Standage to graduate and serve in the Navy but coincidentally there was an uprising held at the Capital Building. Although Mr Standage did not participate,  the Navy inferred that he might very well have been somehow in concert with the sedition and treachery such a protest demonstrated. Therefore they reversed the decision indicated above.

There is, of course, a lawsuit in progress. Justice for the non-progressives of this country can be hard to find.  But surely p*doj, as CinC will want to intervene in the name of unity…

Riiiiight…
