Sort of dreary

with spotty showers and cooler weather.  It’s almost as if we skipped September and went right into the middle of October.  But life is good. We have internet access.

As I approach old age (not there yet)  I have learned one thing.  The story is never true.  No matter the circumstances, there is always another version with alternative facts and conclusions. I dropped the plate and it broke.  Well, OK I actually tripped over a dog and dropped the plate and it broke.  Actually the dog was trying to lick the plate when he knocked me over and I dropped the plate which, by the way, had a large crack from a previous incident and probably was going to break anyway…yada yada…

Anyway, I think of this axiom when I hear a story like the one being told about Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi journalist.  Seems pretty straight forward:  he pissed off the powers that be, went into the Consulate and didn’t come out. Fundamentally we’d have to agree that the plate broke, but the circumstances are far from clear.  An international incident ensues…  Why were the Turks so incensed …? What part does the Saudi-Iranian conflict play in the Turkish response…?  Why did the American Pastor get released coincidentally with all of this…? If all of this interests you and I suspect it does not… Read here for “the rest of the story”

Since I am conceding life lessons this morning I’ll also confess that there are many versions of American life and I only know about one of them.  I know about being being able to pay my bills, gas my car, live in comfort (even with the pain of occasional internet loss ), have my choice of meals and so on… I presume that is what is what is derisively known as White Priviledge.  I read about America where people around you are shot, drugs are the defining circumstance and food comes from a dumpster.  And there are other variants to the existence.  Some even live a life as a… gasp… democrat.  I have no way of knowing but I assume that it has always been thus… so maybe its just the exposure to the news interpreters that generates the pessimism about the future.  Let them eat cake I say…

There were some good cartoons that the unimaginable pain of internet loss prevented me from sharing...
