Yawn...

Was there football involved in the Super Bowl…? From what I read, it was all about the half-time show not taking a social stand and the banality of the commercials that did.  The one funny commercial involving an elevator and some pointed irony at a dinner featuring beet loaf, apparently was so blasted by vegan outrage that the company felt it needed to apologize.  Frankly I couldn’t tell you if the half-time show featured social outrage, quotes from Dr Seuss or just pure obscenities.  I couldn't hear or understand a word of it.  I was fascinated by the tattoos of the main singer but the classification of that noise as music, confounds the intellect.  The National Anthem was beautifully sung, I will say that…

As of this writing we still don’t know if Gov. northam will resign.  Of course the outrage is pure hyperbole.  His religion of infanticide should be the cause for his lynching not his black face or whatever the left is so amped up about.

The WP ran a self-righteous ad, spoken by that great statesman Tom Hanks, touting journalism.  They conveniently found it unnecessary to mention northhams advocacy of murder.  They also killed a story describing sexual assault by the Lt Governor of VA.  But they will see no bias in the so called journalism.

The founding Fathers of Virginia must be so proud of our progressive progress.

My Sunday School lesson came off OK despite my description of the eighth deadly sin as PIZZA, stealing a Jimmy Buffet clip.  I used an old joke about the atheist and a grizzly bear.  I counted on the fading memories of the class and was rewarded by only one or two anticipating the punch line.

Our pastor preached yesterday about the UMC and homosexuality.  The Church is facing a Conference in three weeks where is it is widely expected that Church Discipline will be changed to allow both gay and lesbian marriages and the ordination of openly gay (or lesbian) ministers.  The sermon was an attempt to prepare the congregation for the split that such a decision will cause.  Other denominations have already faced this issue with well publicized results.

What is inevitable is that the Church will echo the social mores that society dictates.  The corporate religion is economically bound to the whims of political correctness.  The message will be one of “Love thy Neighbor” as justification for staying in business rather than being the fundamental directive from Jesus Christ.  We will stay with the church because we can look past it’s political failings as we attempt to get to a state where we accept the Grace.  And that’s the name of that tune…

Wow.  The hangover from last night is stronger than I feared.  I did have a double of Balvanie 12, double cask, to get me past a football game I really had no interest in watching and as it turns out very justifiably so...
